How You Can Show Your Body a Little Love

Feb 3, 2025 | General Health

The month of love is upon us! But spreading love doesn’t always mean extending your generosity outward (although it’s much encouraged!). While Valentine’s Day is often dubbed nothing more than a Hallmark holiday, why don’t we turn the tables a bit this year?

Let’s turn inward and show the vessel that guides us through life some love—something many of us neglect. So, how can you show your body a little love this month? Well, we have a few ideas!

Move With Joy

Exercise doesn’t have to mean punishing workouts. But our bodies thrive when we move. And every little bit counts! So, it’s all about finding movement that brings you joy—whether that’s dancing in your living room, taking a peaceful nature walk, or practicing a gentle movement routine in the morning.

Whatever you choose, pay attention to how that movement makes you feel rather than how it makes you look! This not only shows our bodies a bit of love but also forces us to tune into them.

Rest and Recover

Honor your body’s need for rest. This might mean going to bed a bit earlier, taking a 20-minute power nap when you need it, or simply saying “no” to that activity or social outing and taking some much-needed time for yourself at home. You may even want to consider scheduling downtime if you’re feeling more and more exhausted. This can help you prioritise it properly!

Speak Kindly to Yourself

Many of us look in the mirror and notice all of our flaws or imperfections. This can quickly lead down a slippery slope of self-deprecation and self-loathing. So, let’s flip the script a bit.

Take time to notice your internal dialogue about your body. Replace harsh criticism with gratitude for what your body enables you to do—whether that’s hugging loved ones, experiencing pleasure, or simply breathing. And thank your body for its resilience and strength! It’s gotten you this far; that’s something to be gracious about!

Practice Sensory Exploration

This might seem a little “out there.” But it can help you learn to listen to your body better.

Here’s how to do it: Take time each day to engage your body’s senses in unexpected ways. This might mean walking barefoot on different textures, exploring how various scents affect your mood, or creating a playlist of sounds that make your body feel relaxed or energised.

This mindful attention to sensory experiences helps rebuild the mind-body connection often lost in our digital world. On top of this, it can also help us consciously relax, something that’s becoming less common and harder to do!
