Why your wallet can cause back pain and sciatica!
Do you still sit down with your wallet in your back pocket?
If so, then you need to stand up and take it out of your back pocket as this could be causing your lower back pain or sciatica.
Sciatica refers to an inflammation of the sciatic nerve and many things might cause this. The sciatic nerve starts in the lower back and pelvis. Symptoms can range from pain in your bottom, back of your leg, foot, and toes. The pain can range from mild to, tingling or burning to severe pain down the leg you may also experience numbness or weakness in those areas.
Sitting on your bulky wallet means it is sandwiched between your buttock and the chair directly under the region where the sciatic nerve is based. It can cause a lot of physical stress in the lower spine on the ligaments, muscles, discs, and nerves.
Over time this stress can cause your pelvis and spine to twist and tilt to one side causing back pain that pinches or traps the sciatic nerve. It may also increase your likelihood of other postural-related pain such as the knee, hip, and ankle issues.
This is common for people who sit for a long time, such as drivers.
For all of you who sit on your wallets just remove your wallet before sitting and see how much better it feels! Use a money clip or slim-style wallet that fits in your front pocket or a wallet that attaches to your keys instead.
