5 Tips for Healthier & Happier Holidays

Dec 11, 2023 | General Health

The holiday season is a magical time filled with festive gatherings, cherished traditions, and the joy of giving. However, amidst the twinkling lights and merriment, it’s easy to sideline our well-being and peace of mind.

As we get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle, our health often takes a back seat—both physically and mentally. But what if this year could be different? What if we could find that ideal balance that works for our health and enjoyment?

Check out our healthy holiday tips below—ensuring your holidays are not only merry and bright but also include zero guilt and balance.

Tip #1: Portion is key.

With festive feasts and tempting treats, it’s easy to overindulge. While the holidays are a time for culinary celebration, moderation is the secret to enjoying all your favorite dishes without the post-meal regret.

By being mindful of portion sizes, you can savour each bite and still feel light and energetic. Think of it as giving the gift of well-being to yourself, one plate at a time. Remember, it’s not about depriving yourself but about finding the perfect balance to relish the holiday flavors you love. After all, the holidays are meant to be enjoyed!

Tip #2: Keep up with your regular wellness routine.

This time of year makes it easy to fall off the bandwagon. Whether the gym is closed because of the holidays or your wellness experts (like the Posture & Wellness team) are off, it can be hard to maintain that momentum. However, there are ways around this!

For instance, make sure you book your appointment with our team for when we reopen after the holidays. If the gym is closed on a particular day, do something else to stay active. Alternatively, time off is also important. Thus, planning recovery or deload weeks during those holiday weeks can be a good strategy to give yourself a break without losing your stride.

Tip #3: Plan your drinks.

This may sound a bit like “overdoing it.” But if you’re quite sure you want to cut back on alcohol or you know you’d rather not drink your calories, planning ahead of time can help you stay on track.

For example, you might plan to only have two drinks. Let others know and stick to it. This may potentially alleviate any stress or pressure to drink.

Tip #4: Practice mindful eating.

This means chewing each bite and avoiding distractions (minus the company you keep!) while eating. This may also enhance your enjoyment of the food overall, allowing you to taste every bite.

On top of this, eating slowly will allow your body time to signal to your brain when it’s full, which can help with weight maintenance or post-meal fatigue!

Tip #5: Be kind to yourself.

It’s easy to beat ourselves up over our mistakes or slip-ups. While balance is important, the holidays only come around once a year. So, enjoy them! Try to stay in the moment, and avoid being overly concerned about how many calories you’re eating. Remember, it’s a time for celebration and cheer!
