Trapped nerve
Chiropractor for a trapped nerve in Finsbury Park
A trapped nerve can cause pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness, often some way from where the nerve is actually caught. We find what is pressing on it, in the neck or the back, and correct the structure around it.

What is a trapped nerve?
A trapped, or pinched, nerve is a nerve under pressure from the tissue around it: a bone, a joint, a disc or a tight muscle. In the neck it can send pain, tingling or numbness down the arm. In the lower back it is often called sciatica and travels into the buttock and leg.
The pressure usually comes from how the spine is loaded. When bones have shifted forward and the body twists to compensate, the spaces the nerves pass through narrow, and a nerve gets caught.
How we help with a trapped nerve
Your initial consultation is up to an hour: a detailed case history, an examination of your muscles, joints and nerves, and postural photos so we can see how your whole body is carrying itself.
Where the symptoms travel tells us which nerve is involved and where it is being caught. Tests of your reflexes, strength and sensation show how much pressure it is under. At your report of findings we explain what we found and recommend a care plan.
What care at Posture & Wellness involves
ABC™ corrects the bones that have shifted forward and that your body cannot put back on its own. As the spine settles into alignment, the space around the nerve opens up and the pressure on it eases.
Adjustments are gentle, full-body and done fully clothed. We also show you how to sit, sleep and stand so the correction holds between visits.
When to seek medical help first
Please seek urgent medical help if you have numbness around your genitals or bottom, new bladder or bowel problems, weakness or numbness in both legs, or weakness that is severe or getting worse quickly. These can be signs of serious pressure on the spinal cord or nerves that needs a hospital.
If your symptoms followed an accident or injury, or you feel very unwell, see a doctor before you come to us.
Frequently asked questions
Is a trapped nerve the same as sciatica?
Sciatica is a trapped nerve in the lower back: the sciatic nerve is being irritated or compressed. A trapped nerve in the neck causes similar symptoms in the arm and hand.
Do I need a scan before I book?
No. We examine you first and refer for imaging only if we need it. If you already have a scan or X-rays from the last five years, send them to us before your first visit.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Chiropractic care is a primary healthcare profession, so you can book in with us directly.
