Common short-term effects
Some people feel a little sore, stiff or tired after treatment, much as you might after a good workout. These effects are usually mild and short-lived.
Are there serious risks?
Serious complications from spinal manipulation are rare. The best protection is a thorough examination and a full case history before any treatment, so that anything which needs a different approach is picked up first. That is exactly how your care with us begins.
What should happen before treatment?
- A detailed history of your health and symptoms
- A thorough physical examination
- Checks for anything that might increase your risk
- A clear explanation of the proposed treatment, its benefits, risks and alternatives
- Your informed consent before anything starts
- Referral to your GP if chiropractic is not right for you
Who may need extra caution or another approach?
Some people need extra care or a different approach, including those at increased risk of bleeding or stroke, with very weak or seriously damaged bones or joints, or with certain neurological conditions. That is why we take a full history at your initial consultation before recommending anything.
What does regulation protect?
'Chiropractor' is a protected title in the UK. Anyone practising must be registered and meet national standards on competence, consent and patient safety, so your chiropractor is accountable for the care you receive.
How we look after you at Posture & Wellness
Nothing happens until we understand your body and you understand our plan. Your initial consultation is a detailed case history, a thorough examination and postural photos. At your report of findings we explain what we found and recommend a care plan, with no obligation to go ahead. Only then, and only where it is appropriate for you to start care, does your first adjustment take place.
