Decision guide

What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractic is a primary healthcare system focused on diagnosing, treating and managing joint misalignments, particularly of the spine, which can affect your nerves, muscles and whole-body function. A chiropractor finds out what is going on, then uses hands-on care and practical advice to help you move and feel better.

A good chiropractor examines before treating

Your first appointment should start with a detailed case history and a thorough examination, with the findings, benefits and risks explained to you before any treatment starts. That is how we work: your initial consultation is for understanding your body, your report of findings for explaining it.

What treatment can involve

  • Spinal or joint manipulation, usually called an adjustment
  • Exercises and advice on how you move
  • Advice on how you sit, sleep and stand, and the shoes you wear
  • Referral to your GP when chiropractic is not the right route

What does 'adjustment' mean?

An adjustment is a hands-on technique that moves a joint back towards where it should sit. You may hear a click as the joint moves: that is gas releasing inside the joint, and it is a normal part of the process. What we measure is the change in your posture and how you feel.

We use ABC™, which corrects only the bones that have shifted forward and that your body cannot put back on its own. The effects are often visible and felt immediately.

What we help with

Back pain, mechanical neck pain, headaches from the neck, sciatica, slipped discs, joint pain, shoulder complaints and more. Each has its own page explaining how we look at it and how ABC™ helps.

When a chiropractor is not the right first step

New neurological symptoms, signs of serious illness or a significant injury need urgent medical assessment first. Knowing when to say so is part of our job.
